One has all the equipment that one would desire for a workout, the other requires a little bit of creativity. With more and more people staying home to complete there workouts there needs to be a comparison between gym workouts and at home workouts. One takes less time than the other, but the other has accommodations that could make the time worth it. Let's see which one you may prefer.
The gym consumes more time out of one's day than an at home workout. The drive to and from the gym is a time commitment as well as the time it takes for one to change. The gym also may offer a sauna, whirlpool, and showers so if all of those are used an hour workout could turn into a 2+ hour time commitment. With that being said the gym (on average) will have more equipment to use that an at home gym. The gym will have an assortment of dumbbells, kettlebells, and cardio equipment that one can chose from. This can make the workout dynamic and the user typically has a better chance to pick the right intensity of workout they will do that day. At the gym also, typically there is someone there who can spot you on the bench press or squat. The gym overall is a place that has more equipment and accommodations at your disposal, but is more of a time commitment.
Workouts at home typically look very different than a typical gym workout. If one does not have the proper equipment that a gym has they have to get creative with what they have at their disposal. I have seen people use cases of water, cinder blocks, and backpacks filled with books be used for weights. They are doing the same exercises as someone would do in the gym, but just with different apparatuses. Instead of a barbell for squats they are grabbing a case of water and holding it in front of them to add some resistance. In a way the home workouts are just as beneficial, if not more, to a person's everyday activities. At home workouts are also less time consuming. There is no drive to the gym or other members of the gym to distract you from your workout. Now pets and kids may be a distraction at home, but at least you eliminated the drive. Workouts can be quick and effective.
There is no one type of workout that trumps the other. One can get an effective workout at home or at the gym. One type may be more of a time commitment, but in the end it is how one wants to spend their time. Working out also does not have to be a huge time commitment. A quick 15 minute at home workout can be just as effective as an hour at the gym. When it is all said and done find the type of workout routine that works for you and stay committed to the plan.
